SHICKY GNAROWITZ AND THE TRANSPARENT WINGS OF JOY

Shicky Gnarowitz is an acoustic trio who plays old European folk standards plus some original tunes in the same style.

The music ranges in emotion from poignant and sad to wild and joyful. The band has often been described as having an authentic Klezmer or Roma sound.

 

 

"Shicky Gnarowitz has been playing traditional folk music from Eastern Europe, primarily Klezmer and Greek Rebetika music for 15 years. A three piece band where every band member has played in punk bands, Shicky Gnarowitz keeps their music traditional, stripped down and simple so as to highlight the beauty of the music. They play with raw energy, stomping out a fast Bulgar or weeping out a slow waltz. Anna Schott plays violin, Tim Wenzel plays guitar and Jesse Emerson/Dave Leavitt contribute the upright bass. Highlights for the band include playing at comedian Will Farrell’s wedding and playing aboard world-class competitive sailor Christophe Auguin's sailboat in the south of France."
